Road racing world is sad to announce the death of Dan Kneen. Born in 1987, the rider from Ochan died yesterday evening following a crash during Isle of Man TT Practice.
The Tyco BMW by TAS rider had a fatal fall near Churchtown while he was running his first lap on Mountain track. He was riding a BMW S1000RR by TAS Racing.
Dan had much experience in road racing, a world he had approached in 2008 by debuting in Manx Grand Prix (also because his youth role model was Steve Hislop). He had immediately surprised everybody, as he had won in Junior, Newcomers C and Ultra Lightweight categories at his very first experience on Isle of Man.
The great results scored in the past had brought him to Tyco BMW, with Michael Dunlop as team-mate for this year’s TT. Last year he had ranked third in Superstock race after reaching 130,347 mph in his fastest lap.
Two days ago he had been able to perform a very good lap in 17’06″994 with 132,258 mph of average speed and so he had been one of the fastest in Superbike class.
