Michael Laverty leaves British Superbike to focus on other projects

If we don’t consider his short MotoGP career (2013 and 2014), 2019 will be the first year of Michael Laverty far from British Superbike. “M-LAV“, who’s turning 38 on 7th June, has decided to leave BSB after many seasons spent with iconic teams such as TAS Racing (Suzuki and BMW), Honda Racing UK and Yamaha teams SMR, Swan and McAMS.

2007 British Supersport Champion made this decision a long time ago and now he may switch to Endurance World Championship, where he already competed with Honda, YART Yamaha and more recently Penz13 BMW (+ BMW Financial Services 135 at Suzuka 8 Hours). Last year he finished 3rd at 24 Heures Motos du Mans. Former Aprilia MotoGP test rider will also continue following MotoGP with BT Sport, after the successful experience lived in 2018.

Laverty leaves BSB after scoring 10 wins (the latest in 2016 at Thruxton) and 39 podium finishes. He may return as a wildcard, but 2018 season was his last one in BSB. Last year he scored a podium at Brands Hatch Indy and 116 points overall.
