CEV Moto3 Catalunya, Race1: Sergio Garcia gets the win, teammate Alcoba is 2nd

Dominion for the Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 duo today, with Garcia 1st followed only 15 thousandths after by Alcoba. Wongthananon finished 3rd while Pagliani and Nepa didn’t make it to the podium.

The first Moto3 race at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit has been very rewarding for the Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0: Sergio Garcia managed to win at the chequered flag, conquering his second victory of the season with a small 15 thousandths margin on his teammate Jeremy Alcoba. Apiwath Wongthananon had been fighting for the leading positions for the whole race and managed to step on the podium too, while both Manuel Pagliani (4th due to a mistake he made just a few laps before the end of the race) and Stefano Nepa (5th but with the best lap time of the race) finished out of the top 3.

When the light went off, both Alcoba and Garcia kicked off amazingly ahead of Pagliani, while De Vits and José Julian Garcia fell right after the beginning. Zannoni managed to fight almost immediately for the first positions, but fell in the middle of the other riders’ trajectories, luckily untouched by Viu, right behind him. Rossi’s race also ended early because of a fall. In the meantime, Pagliani took the lead but his opponents didn’t give up: nine riders grouped and started fighting for the three positions on the podium, among them also Nepa, but the group split into two four-riders ones, both headed by an Italian rider. With three laps to go, Pagliani and Alcoba hit each other on the straight: the Italian rider went out of the track, re-entering in 9th and therefore unable to perform a complete comeback.

Sergio Garcia won with a very small 15 thousandths margin over his teammate Jeremy Alcoba. Apiwath Wongthananon stepped on the podium too, winning over a great Pagliani for just 10 tenths. Stefano Nepa got an excellent 5th position and recorded the best time on lap with a nice 1:49.703. Marc Garcia finished 6th followed by Ai Ogura, and Raul Fernandez is 8th, ahead of Turkish twins Deniz and Can Öncü.
