MotoGP Silverstone, FP2: Andrea Dovizioso rules, Crutchlow and Viñales follow

Andrea Dovizioso made the best time of the day this Friday, closing FP2 ahead of Cal Crutchlow and Maverick Viñales

The top riders in the ranking registered times very close to each other in this second round of FP. The absolute best time of the day belongs to Andrea Dovizioso, followed by the local rider Cal Crutchlow by just 5 thousandths, and then by Maverick Viñales, 3rd with a 6 hundredths’ gap. Marc Marquez closed this FP2 4th, just 1 tenth behind.

All riders immediately took the track as the cloudy sky was promising some rain. Probably, they were also thinking about Q2: in case of bad weather tomorrow morning, all riders wanted to register the best time today in order to be in the top 10. Initially, Marquez took the lead before Dovizioso managed to overtake him. Rabat suffered a bad fall on Farm Turn, but luckily the Spanish rider stood up again and walked away on his own feet with no serious injuries.

The round ended with a leading Andrea Dovizioso, closely followed by Cal Crutchlow, Maverick Viñales and Marc Marquez (he risked crashing, but managed to save his round by going off-track). Jorge Lorenzo made the 5th best time, followed by his brand-mate Jack Miller and by Johann Zarco. Valentino Rossi, Andrea Iannone, and Alvaro Bautista filled up the remaining positions in the top 10.
