STRATEGIES – These are hectic times for MotoGP: many riders are looking for a seat and there could be many changes also for what concerns the teams. At the moment there are 24 spots available in the top class and two of them may become vacant because of Marc VDS trouble. The conflict between Team Owner Marc van der Straten and ex-Team Manager Michael Bartholemy should be solved soon, as the parties are negotiating a solution. After that, van der Straten will decide whether to stay in MotoGP or to give up the campaign with Franco Morbidelli and Thomas Luthi to focus just on Moto2. Every spot in MotoGP grants 2.5 million euros coming from TV rights and this is the reason why IRTA and Dorna would prefer that Petronas replaced one of the existing teams. It happened in 2015, when Aprilia came back to MotoGP by backing Gresini Racing. If Petronas acquired Angel Nieto Team and Marc VDS left MotoGP, we would have 22 permanent entries and this would be an advantage for all the teams. Furthermore, there would be two vacant spots and these may go to Valentino Rossi, if he decided to create a team.
