MotoGP, Qatar FP1: Aleix Espargaro beats Vinales for the first position

Today’s first free practice in this Qatar back to back MotoGP weekend showed us a good battle between Vinales and Aleix Espargaro for the first position. Big problems for Franco Morbidelli who probably broke two engines.

The MotoGP FP1 of the Doha GP started today with a lot of action. Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales fought during the last minutes of the session to get the first position. In the end, Espargaro won with a 1:54.779. To notice a lot of problems for Morbidelli who seems to have broken two engines during the session.

The practice started with some good times for the Yamahas and the Suzukis. After just ten minutes Morbidelli has some problems: his bike smokes during the acceleration out of turn one and he has to change it. He didn’t lose any oil, so it should be an engine problem. Just five minutes later, in turn 15, Johann Zarco falls and has to retire, but he is ok. A good 10th lap for Petrucci who gets first with a 1:55.2.

After some minutes Franco Morbidelli beats him with a tenth of separation. One lap later the Italian got a 1:54.7 which was cancelled and then he has again engine problems out of turn one, but with the new bike. If the rumours are real, Morbidelli is in big trouble now, because it seems that he has broken two engines in one session. During the last minutes of this FP1, Aleix Espargaro and Vinales fought for the first position with the first one recording a 1:54.779, which gives him the first position.
