Moto2 Catalunya, QP: Shocking pole position from Fabio Quartararo

Catalan Moto2 Qualifying Practice saw the first solo of Fabio Quartararo in this class. The young Frenchman secured pole position with a lap in 1:43.474, which he performed during the final minutes of the session. Just one tenth behind we have Alex Marquez and Marcel Schrotter, followed by championship leader Francesco Bagnaia. The race will start tomorrow at 12.20 local time.

While Stefano Manzi, Lorenzo Baldassarri, Tetsuta Nagashima and Xavi Vierge crashed (all uninjured, fortunately), Schrotter, Mattia Pasini, Bagnaia and Marquez fought for pole position. It looked like Marquez would have got it, but everything changed during the last 5 minutes, when Fabio Quartararo managed to beat him. This way “El Diablo” gave Speed Up an amazing pole position and this represents also the end of a long “winning series” by KALEX. Alex Marquez finished 2nd ahead of Marcel Schrotter, while Francesco Bagnaia will start from second row together with Brad Binder and Mattia Pasini. Xavi Vierge, Joan Mir, Sam Lowes and Lorenzo Baldassarri closed the top 10. Disappointing 17th place for Miguel Oliveira, Mugello GP winner.
