Moto3, Assen, FP2: Canet takes the lead, Martin crashes

Aron Canet is the best rider on Friday, ahead of Gabriel Rodrigo and John McPhee. Bulega finished 5th followed by Bezzecchi, while Martin fell and had to be carried out on a gurney.

This first day of FP ended with Aron Canet’s quickest time: not only he managed to take the lead right at the end of the round, but he also registered the best time of the day. Second is Gabriel Rodrigo, ahead of John McPhee. World Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi closed in 6th), while Martin fell violently and had to be taken to the Medical Center for checkups: he was then declared fit to continue.

Fausto Gresini’s rider managed to stay in the first position for the first few minutes, but soon enough Canet and Bezzecchi started fighting for his place: the Italian rider managed to head the group for a while but he couldn’t get any closer to the Spanish rider’s best time of the day. The situation remained stable for many laps, with some riders fighting for the positions behind the current World Championship leader.

During the last few minutes, there were some fundamental changes in the ranking, together with Martin’s violent high side on Turn 4. The Del Conca rider seemed to be in a lot of pain, and he had to be carried out of track on a gurney. Aron Canet then managed to take the lead and closed the FP first, followed by Gabriel Rodrigo and John McPhee, with Phillip Oettl 4th ahead of Nicolò Bulega (who managed to climb up some positions in the last few laps) and Marco Bezzecchi. Jakub Kornfeil closed right behind his teammate, while Kaito Toba, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Jorge Martin took up the last positions in the top ten.
