
The local rider Philipp Öttl made the best time of the day during FP2, finishing this round first ahead of Tony Arbolino and Jorge Martin.
The first day of Moto3 FP at Sachsenring ended with the German rider leading the ranking: Philipp Öttl managed to register the best time of the day this Friday, closely followed by Tony Arbolino and Jorge Martín. The FP will start again at 9 AM tomorrow for the third round.
In the first few minutes, Canet temporarily conquered the head of the group, followed by Martín and Bastianini. The wildcard Ogura fell at the Sachsenkurve, luckily with no serious consequences, and some time after also Atiratphuvapat fell on Turn 3. In addition, Arenas crashed on Turn 1 just at the end of the round. During tis session, the rain flag was flown after a few raindrops fell on the track, but this had no influence on the round’s results.
As usual, the most important changes happened in the last few minutes of the FP2. Philipp Öttl, playing at home, managed to take the lead of this round, speeding up right before the end. Jorge Martín finished 2nd, arriving just 2 thousandths after Öttl, but he got a penalty for going out of track’s boundaries. Therefore, Tony Arbolino got the 2nd place, while John McPhee is 4th ahead of Marcos Ramírez, Aron Canet and Gabriel Rodrigo. Albert Arenas, Jakub Kornfeil, and Fabio Di Giannantonio filled up the last three positions in the top ten.
