The MotoE season begins in Jerez with the first tests and there is no shortage of news: the Indonesian E-Racing Gresini is born. New colours for Ferrari and Mantovani.
We are back to getting serious in MotoE with today’s tests on the Jerez track. This will be the third absolute season for the electric category. There is no shortage of news, starting from the entry list of the drivers. But also from the point of view of the teams, there are some changes. This is the case of the Gresini team, which in addition to changing livery and colours, changes the name of its team with the entry of new sponsors. Thanks to the partner with Indonesian Racing, the first Indonesian-flag electric team is born, called Indonesian E-Racing Gresini MotoE. To defend the colours it’s been confirmed Matteo Ferrari (champion in 2019 and vice-champion in 2020) and rookie Andrea Mantovani.
It will not be an easy season for both and for the whole team after the death of Fausto Gresini, but there will be great motivation to honour the manager in the best possible way in a championship that has become increasingly competitive. Matteo Ferrari wants to regain the crown lost a year against the new world champion Jordi Torres. While for Andrea Mantovani this is a unique opportunity to show off in the world championship. The three test sessions per day will be very useful. They will remove the rust and get back the feeling with the electric bikes; for rookies like Mantovani instead, it will be the first useful approach to become familiar with a totally new reality.
DRIVERS’ INTERVIEW
“It will be my third year with Gresini. I have been a protagonist in all editions of the MotoE World Cup” says Matteo Ferrari. “I was able to adapt quickly and be the protagonist. The accumulated experience makes me look to the future with confidence in my abilities. The goal is to confirm the level of performance that we have demonstrated together so far. I thank Fausto Gresini for giving me the opportunity to get involved and successfully face the challenge in MotoE: it has allowed me to grow more and more“.
Andrea Mantovani is preparing for his debut instead: “I am happy to take part in this championship. It will be a totally new experience. I have only ridden motorcycles with a combustion engine. There is a lot of curiosity to discover the electric world, both in terms of power and driving style“. The primary objective is to do kilometres and adapt to the new reality. “I have no doubt that this will be a constructive year. The hope is that of being able to have fun and grow a lot during the season. My thanks go to Fausto Gresini and all the sponsors for giving me this great opportunity“.
