The second MotoGP event of the 2021 season sees a rookie in pole. Jorge Martín shines in qualifying and leaves everyone behind. The Ducati Pramac rider secured his first pole in the premier class! It is a double party for Pramac, with Johann Zarco in second place. Maverick Viñales completes the front row. On the other hand, the Ducati factory duo was a little subdued. Miller 4th ahead of Quartararo and Bagnaia 6th ahead of Aleix Espargaró.
In the first qualifying session, there were all the KTMs, the reigning champion Mir, the Esponsorama duo, three Hondas, the rookie Savadori, and Rossi. A close fight started immediately and several appeared able to aim for access to Q2. Lecuona was the only one with the medium front. Bastianini ran into a gearbox problem that made him lose precious minutes. The final assault, with Petrucci and Marini among the protagonists, rewarded Joan Mir. The champion secured the best time ahead of Miguel Oliveira.
In Q2, the first to break down the wall of 1:54 is Martín. The fight for the high areas of the grid of the Doha Grand Prix is on fire, except for Oliveira who awaits the final minutes. Jorge Martín sets a great lap and secures first place on the grid! Double party for Pramac with Johann Zarco author of the second-fastest time. Maverick Viñales takes third place. Something does not seem to have worked for the Ducati factory team.
