After the renewal with Pol Espargaro, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has officially announced the deal with Johann Zarco, who’s going to ride a KTM for the next two seasons. The twice Moto2 World Champion will leave Monster Yamaha Tech 3 after two years and he will go back to the Austrian manufacturer twelve years after the triumph in Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Moreover, KTM supported Zarco also when he was in Moto2.
Pit Bierer (KTM Motorsports Director)
“We’ve always had a good relationship with Johann, since when he competed in Red Bull Rookies Cup. We supported his Moto2 campaign through WP, Moto3 Team Manager Aki Ajo is a good friend of his and we also have good relations with Laurent Fellon, Johann’s manager. It was a big effort: we think we can win and Zarco wouldn’t have signed with us, if he had not believed in our project. Our goal is to give him a bike that makes him able to be in the front.”
“We clearly want to make a big step forward in MotoGP. During the first two years we started a project and we wanted to make sure that everything worked. Everybody wants to sign the best riders and we believe that Johann is a warrior, because in spite of being a satellite rider, he’s often faster than factory riders and sometimes he even qualifies in first row. I’m sure that with him we can raise the bar.”
