MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo to undergo surgery following scaphoid fracture

Honda Racing Corporation have confirmed what was rumoured yesterday 20th January: Jorge Lorenzo broke his left scaphoid. Today the five times World Champion will undergo a surgery in Barcelona after further medical examination. The surgery will be performed by Xavier Mir in Dexeus Universitary Hospital.

Lorenzo injured himself last Saturday, while doing some dirt track training near Verona. At about 17:30 local time, Lorenzo was hospitalized in Peschiera del Garda, but nobody was allowed to make statements about his health conditions. Yesterday Jorge Lorenzo flew back to Barcelona, where Xavier Mir’s team confirmed such injury and the need for surgery.

Not the best start of 2019 for Honda, as also Marc Márquez is still not fit to ride (he’s recovering from a right shoulder surgery). Jorge broke his left scaphoid just few days before the official Repsol Honda Team launch, scheduled on 23rd January in Madrid, and two weeks before official IRTA Sepang Test (6-8th February). Unless recovery goes faster than usual, Lorenzo will miss the first test of 2019.
