MotoGP, Portimao: it is pole position for Fabio Quartararo!

Fabio Quartararo conquers the pole position, inheriting it from Bagnaia (record removed for yellow flags). Front row completed by Rins and Zarco

Qualifying session full of upheavals even beyond the checkered flag. Finally, the first place on the grid is in the hands of Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman benefited from the last record lap taken from Francesco Bagnaia. The Italian did not slow down under the yellow flag due to Oliveira’s crash. For the second time this season, a pole position was removed for this reason. He is 11th now on the grid. The first row sees an excellent Alex Rins in second place, author of one of his best qualifications, third box for Johann Zarco.

Q1: Marc Márquez and Mir pass

The first qualifying session saw the Márquez brothers at the start, Pol Espargaró and the reigning world champion Mir, in addition to three KTMs, plus the rookie Bastianini and Savadori, ending with Rossi. Nakagami, on the other hand, did not compete in FP4 and his Saturday ended with a crash in FP2. In the end, it is Marc Márquez and Joan Mir who enter the second qualifying session.

Q2:

The battle for the pole position started immediately, but Zarco’s crash changed everything after a few minutes. Quartararo took the lead, followed by Morbidelli and Mir. Bagnaia’s best lap was canceled due to yellow flags, while Márquez waits a long time before being seen on the track. The round closed prematurely for Oliveira, while Pecco Bagnaia arrives like a missile, but his record lap is still canceled due to yellow flags! Fabio Quartararo takes pole position, followed by Alex Rins and Johann Zarco.
