Deniz Öncü is the undiscussed leader of Race 1 at Aragón, crossing the finish line 1st ahead of Xavier Artigas and Carlos Tatay.
The first race of this weekend at MotorLand Aragón ends with a victorious Deniz Öncü. He had to fight hard for this result, but he eventually gave us an excellent performance that allowed him to cross the finish line with a large lead over his rivals. Xavier Artigas got the 2nd place while Carlos Tatay is 3th. The latter dedicated the podium to his father for his birthday.
Deniz Öncü kicked off amazingly and took the lead ahead of Carrasco and the poleman Artigas, who soon after managed to overtake his fellow countryman and stuck to the Turkish rider. Öncü tried to run away but his rivals, led by Yamanaka, didn’t let him go so easily and closed their lines just behind him. The final battle was really a fierce one, but two of the leading characters in the show fell a few laps before the end: Salač and Kawakami hit each other and went down, and only the Brazilian rider managed to re-enter the race.
At this point, we got the final duel between Deniz Öncü and Xavier Artigas, who both got an advantage of some tenths over their rivals. Eventually, the young Turkish rider won and conquered the 1st step on the podium ahead of the poleman and Carlos Tatay. Steward Garcia closed the race 4th, followed by Adrián Carrasco, Yuki Kunii and Dan Jones. Ryusei Yamanaka, Sean Kelly and Can Öncü managed to gain the remaining positions in the top 10, the latter thanks to a penalty given to Barry Baltus. Pasquale Alfano, the only Italian rider, slipped and had to withdraw from the competition.
