Red Bull Rookies Cup, Assen, Race 2: Double win for Can Öncü

The current leader of the Rookies Cup ranking, Can Öncü, is uncatchable also in the second round at Assen, clearly winning over all riders. On the podium also Filip Salač and Xavier Artigas…but so many crashes!

Can Öncü just concluded a perfect weekend: after getting the pole position and winning Race 1 on Saturday, he also conquered an amazing success today in Race 2! With this victory, he also strengthened his leading position in the overall ranking. On the podium with him stepped Filip Salač and Xavier Artigas too.

As usual, the poleman conquered the head of the group right after the beginning of the race, and he was clearly determined to win by a large margin from the following riders. As for the remaining positions on the podium, we witnessed a fierce battle among six riders. Garcia, Yamanaka (who stepped on the podium in Gara 1), Kawakami (who won the pole position at Mugello Circuit), Kelly, van Eerde and Jespersen all crashed at different times during the race.

There’s no contest for the 1st place: Can Öncü clearly took the lead also in Race 2 and crossed the finish line alone and by a large margin from his opponents. The fight for the other steps on the podium ended with Filip Salač 2nd and Xavier Artigas 3rd, while behind them arrived Barry Baltus and Deniz Öncü, in this order. The rest of the top ten went to Carrasco, Tatay, and Liebenberg, who had a three-riders hit just a few turns before the end of the race.

They will be on track again in two weeks, on the 14th and 15th of July, for the fourth racing weekend of this 2018 season. The race will take place at Sachsenring Circuit, in Germany.
