Red Bull Rookies Cup, Austria, Race 2: Xavier Artigas gets his first victory

Spanish rider Xavier Artigas wins a race in the Red Bull Rookies Cup for the first time, crossing the finish line first ahead of Can Öncü and Filip Salač.

The Red Bull Ring hosts Xavier Artigas’ first win during Race 2. The Spanish rider got three times in top 3 this year, the last one during yesterday’s Race 1, but today he managed to take the lead of the race, climbing up to the highest podium’s step. The current top rider of the Rookies’ ranking Can Öncü got the 2nd place (up to now, he has always been among the top 3 riders) followed by the young Czech rider Filip Salač.

The front row kicked off almost simultaneously, with Artigas taking the lead at the first turn but with an intense battle for the podium firing up almost immediately. Dan Jones crashed again, after getting 0 points in Race 1 too, together with Billy van Eerde, who was forced to leave the competition early after the Welsh rider’s bike touched his one. During the second half of the race, the head of the group was made up of 10 riders that left a large margin from their rivals. These boys gave us a fierce battle for the first three positions in the ranking that lasted all the way down to the chequered flag.

Two laps before the end, Carrasco slipped and had to leave the competition, while Xavier Artigas gained his first victory in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. Can Öncü get the 2nd place (always on one of the podium’s steps this season) ahead of Filip Salač (3rd). Deniz Öncü is just out the podium again. Steward García arrived 5th ahead of Carlos Tatay and the poleman Ryusei Yamanaka. Gerry Salim, Yuki Kunii, and Peetu Paavilainen filled up the last three positions in the top 10.
