MXGP Switzerland, Qualifying: Antonio Cairoli wins, Jeffrey Herlings stuns

Tony Cairoli gets ready for the two races in Switzerland the best way he can, as he won Qualifying Race at Frauenfeld-Gachnang. Most of the race was led by Tim Gajser, but the Slovenian suffered final drop in the last laps and this made it much easier to Cairoli, who secured a good win.

CAIROLI WINS – The race had its crucial moment at the beginning, as Jeffrey Herlings fell at the second corner. This put the Dutchman in the very back of the field and meanwhile Tim Gajser took the lead ahead of Clément Desalle, Max Anstie and Antonio Cairoli. Later the star from Sicily overtook Anstie and Desalle and went second, just behind Gajser. 2016 MXGP World Champion seemed to be in control, but in the final laps he suffered a huge drop and this took Cairoli to first place. Finally the Italian won in front of Romain Febvre and Clément Desalle.

HERLINGS, WHAT A COMEBACK! – Behind the very front, Jeffrey Herlings made a stunning comeback after second-corner fall. The Dutchman was 37th and last, but it took just 5 minutes to climb the ranking till 19th place and halfway the 20 minutes (+ 2 laps) of the race he was close to the top 10. In the final minutes, Herlings made some more overtakes (and was touched by Jeremy van Horebeek) and finally he finished 6th behind the front trio, Max Anstie and Gautier Paulin and ahead of angry Tim Gajser.

MX2 – For what concerns under-23 World Championship, Jorge Prado won Qualifying Race by beating last year’s winner Hunter Lawrence. Reigning World Champion Pauls Jonass , instead, finished fourth behind Thomas Covington.
