The opening race of 2019 AMA Supercross FIM World Championship was won by superlative Justin Barcia. The Factory Yamaha rider crossed the finish line in first place ahead of Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac, with the latter finishing on a high a very tough race weekend. Mud and rain turned the event into a very demanding challenge and finally the best of them was 26-year-old Barcia, from Florida.
THE START – At the beginning, Dean Wilson got the Holeshot as a contact involved Marvin Musquin and Cooper Webb, with the latter falling together with Joey Savatgy. Wilson immediately started to push hard and Malcom Stewart, Jason Anderson and Ken Roczen tried to keep his pace, while Eli Tomac was forced to recover after being stuck in the pack.
THE CHAMPION GOES DOWN… – Few minutes went by when reigning Champion Jason Anderson started to lose positions. A techincal issue forced #1 Husqvarna rider to give up his dreams of glory and finally he couldn’t do better than 14th. In the meantime, Malcom Stewart closed the gap on Dean Wilson, but he crashed while trying to go first. Stewart’s mistake allowed Justin Barcia and Ken Roczen to go up to second and third place and later, both riders overtook Wilson. No further surprise affected the first two positions till the end, as Barcia won the race ahead of Roczen.
…WHILE HIS RIVAL GOES UP – A bit behind them, Eli Tomac secured his first podium at Anaheim ever by passing Wilson at the very last lap. Dean Wilson finished fourth, while Cooper Webb ended a wonderful comeback in fifth place. Great debut performance from Aaron Plessinger, who finished his very first race in 450SX in sixth place.
LA PROSSIMA – Malcom Stewart, Marvin Musquin, evergreen Chad Reed and Cole Seely closed the top 10. The second round of 2019 AMA Supercross will take place on 12th January at Glendale. Save the date…
