The past five years were very tough for German IDM Superbike, with two collapses, three promoter changes, poor starting grids and unsuccessful recovery attempts. But finally, 2018 season saw the rebirth of this championship, thanks to new promoter Motorrad Action Team and DMSB (a sort of German motorsport federation). Their work, in fact, led to a remarkable increase in both quality and quantity of IDM riders.
After the growth experienced in 2018, IDM (Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft) is ready to keep this positive trend in the new year. 2019 calendar has already been released and it counts, for Superbike class, eight events in four different nations: Germany (Lausitzring, Oschersleben, Nurburgring, Schleiz and Hockenheim), Belgium (Zolder), the Netherlands (Assen) and the new entry represented by Czech Republic (Most).
The strength of competitors like Alpe Adria (who will welcome European Superstock 1000) doesn’t concern Motorrad Action Team, whose goal is to consolidate IDM with a long-term project. Such purpose has been approved by 6 national importers: BMW, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha and KTM have already applied for 2019 IDM season and two of them, Yamaha and KTM, will also support two single-brand series (respectively bLU cRU and ADAC Junior Cup).
In conclusion, the partnership with Pirelli has been further extended and so the Italian company will be the only tyre supplier of the championship, with specific solutions prepared for each class.
