Superbike Aragon, FP1: Jonathan Rea leads in front of Marco Melandri

The opening Free Practice session of World Superbike Aragon Round, which took place on the wet track, saw Jonathan Rea setting the fastest lap in front of Marco Melandri. Behind them, good 3rd place for Leon Camier, but the real surprise is Michael Rinaldi, who finished the session in 4th place on the third Aruba.it Ducati. The reigning European Superstock 1000 Champion will participate in all 2018 WorldSBK Rounds taking place in Europe and he surely could not hope for a better start.

AMPHIBIUS – Jonathan Rea was one of the first riders hitting the wet track and he immediately got up to speed and set the fastest laps. Then he spent much time in the pits, before going out in the final part of the session to take 1st place back. In the standings, which are not very reliable (the weather should improvefor Saturday and Sunday), Rea was more than half a second faster than Melandri.

YOUNG GUN – Michael Rinaldi, fourth behind a more and more consistent Leon Camier, ranks fourth in front of Michael van der Mark, the other KRT rider Tom Sykes and BMW Althea’s Loris Baz. Eighth place for Xavi Fores, 3rd in championship standings and aiming for victory. 9th and 10 place for Alex Lowes and Lorenzo Savadori, while Sava’s team-mate for these three rounds, Davide Giugliano (who replaces the injured Eugene Laverty), is 17th. The rider from Roma had already rode Aprilia RSV4 back in 2013, when he ranked sixth in championship standings with Althea Racing.
