The collaboration between Ondrej Jezek and Guandalini Racing Yamaha lasted just seven rounds. Jezek was sacked after scoring just two points so far and it’s not known what he will do to continue 2018 campaign.
Here’s what Team Owner Mirco Guandalini said to us: “Despite the huge effort from both team and rider, we haven’t scored the results we aimed for. For this reason, and also due to some breaches of contract, we’ve decided to replace Ondrej Jezek.” When we asked him what parts of the contract were not respected, Guandalini said just: “I prefer not to give details. It will be discussed in the appropriate places.”
What has been already announced, by contrast, is the name of their new rider: Karel Hanika, currently competing in Endurance World Championship with Mercury Racing (formerly known as BMW CSEU). The young Czech, who previously competed in Moto3 World Championship, will debut in World Superbike already at Laguna Seca. “He will use US Round – added Guandalini – as a test session, in order to prepare for the next races. We want to finish the season with him.“
