
Saturday morning’s Free Practice session, not timed for Superpole, finished with Jonathan Rea topping the standings once again. The reigning World Champion set his fast lap (1’46.354) in the final moments of the session and he was four tenths faster than his team-mate Tom Sykes (1’46.755). This way Kawasaki Racing Team finished FP4 with a good 1-2.
Chaz Davies, Jonathan Rea’s main rival at Imola, ranked third with one lap in 1’46.907. The Welsh was half a second slower than Rea and he was the last rider going under the 1’47. wall. Behind him we find Xavi Forés (1’47.378) and special guest Leon Haslam, who finished fifth with his Elf-sponsored Puccetti Kawasaki. Jordi Torres, Michael Rinaldi, Lorenzo Savadori, Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark close the top 10. 15th place for Marco Melandri, who crashed out halfway the session.
