Jonathan Rea was the fastest rider in the first US Round Free Practice session.

The Northern Irish was just 96 milliseconds faster than Marco Melandri, while the gaps between Rea and the rest are already higher, starting from Eugene Laverty, half a second slower. Tom Sykes and Alex Lowes closed the top 5 ahead of Chaz Davies.

Top American in the standings was wild card entry Josh Herrin, who ranked tenth and rode faster than Jake Gagne (12th) and PJ Jacobsen (19th). Rookie Karel Hanika closed the classification on the Guandalini Yamaha, formerly ridden by Ondrej Jezek.
